Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elizabeth Solon, his son, Jeremy Gump, two grandchildren, his mother, Joan Solon, his siblings, David and Connie Solon, Mary Jo Solon, Paul Solon, Susan and Michael Emmons, Katie Solon and Andreas Halbach, his nieces and nephews, Matthew Emmons, Nicole Gooden, Erin Gooden, Mike Solon, Sarah Solon, Blair Solon, Emily Solon and Max Halbach, many aunts, uncles and cousins, also mourn their loss.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Solon and his brothers, Michael Solon and Arthur Solon.
Jim was an automobile man. Jim started as a lot boy, worked up to sales at his dad's dealership in Portland, Oregon. At Kuni Cadillac, he sold his way to Cadillac sales fame by several years winning best salesperson in the west coast zone. Jim then worked as a sales manager in Portland and general sales manager at Golden Gate Cadillac in San Francisco.
In 1990, Jim settled in Pasadena as dealer/president of Team Chevrolet/Oldsmobile. In 2004, he sold his business and retired. During his presidency of Team, Jim supported many civic causes in Pasadena and will be remembered for his clever TV ads in the LA market. A gifted youth basketball player and always an avid sports fan, Jim generously supported local schools and universities and attended many home and away games. Jim graduated from Albuquerque's Del Norte High School and attended Arizona State University and University of New Mexico.
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque on November 3, 2012.
