Eugene S. Baxter, 83, passed away in St. Peters Hospital in Albany, N.Y. on Friday, March 24, 2006. He was born in Roscoe, N.Y. on March 2, 1923, the son of Clyde and Geraldine Stickle Baxter. Mr. Baxter was predeceased by his wife, Mary C. (Cahill) Baxter, who died on December 20, 2002. He is survived by his sister, Lois Fontana (Robert) and predeceased by his brother, Gerald Baxter (Doreen). He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William and Barbara Baxter, Coxsackie, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, David and Julie Baxter, Washingtonville, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Allan Beckmann, Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and John Timko, Port Crane, N.Y.; and son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Diane Baxter, Jefferson, Mass.; and eleven grandchildren, Michael Baxter, Allan Beckmann, Carolyn Beckmann, Daniel Baxter, Joseph Baxter, Melinda Beckmann, Kerry Baxter, Colin Baxter, Jennifer Hearn, Jeremy Ford and Michael Timko. Mr. Baxter was a 1940 graduate of Roscoe High School and served in the Untied States Army. He graduated from Rider College in 1947 with a degree in Business Education. Mr. Baxter received his Master's Degree from Syracuse University. After teaching in Roscoe, N.Y. for a year, Mr. Baxter moved to the Tri-Cities area and taught in Johnson City from 1948 until his retirement in 1981. While teaching in Johnson City, he was Coordinator of the Business Department and served a term as the President of the Teachers Association. He enjoyed dancing with this wife and was a founding member of "Let's Dance Club." He was an antique car enthusiast and was a member of the Iroquois Region Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Barber Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73123-1718 or United Way of Broome County, Inc. at P.O. Box 550, Binghamton, N.Y. 13902-0550.
