Gary Michael Penland, age 55, of Alliance, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011.Gary was born May 23, 1956, in Asheville, N.C., to the late Burdette and Betty (Neighbors) Penland. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years. He was employed at Kepich Ford in Garrettsville, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Susan R. (Taylor) Penland; and children, Jimmy (Angela) Penland, Jennifer (Kevin) Wilcox, Staff Sgt. Aaron M. Childs (fiancee Wendy Elifritz), Sarah (Ryan) McDonald and Nolon LaPorte. Gary was the proud grandpa to Angel, Keith, Thomas, Shelby, Catherine, Lizzy, Ryan, Rose and soon-to-arrive Gary Penland. He was brother to Jerry (Debbie) Penland, Jimmy (Beverly) Penland and Linda Chakales; and an uncle to several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville, with Pastor Rick Brown officiating.
