"Dr Merle R 'Buck' Amy, DDS, 87, of Welsh Hill Road, Corry, Pa, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 30, 2012. He was born June 17, 1925, in Corry, Pa, a son of the late Dr Merle R Amy, DC, and Florence Rogers Amy. Buck was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry High School in 1943. Following graduation, he served with the US Army as a machine gunner in the 80th Infantry Division assigned to the 3rd Army under Gen George Patton in the European Theater during World War II. He was awarded a Combat Infantryman Badge, two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, three Battle Stars and a Liberty Medal. After his discharge in 1945, Buck attended the University of Pittsburgh and received his DDS degree in 1952. He returned to Corry and began his private dental practice. He retired in 1991 and had worked part time at Family Dentistry in Corry since then. Buck was a lifetime member of the Corry VFW Post 264, a member of the Artists' Guild-Woodcarvers and the Corry Country Club and was a former member of the Elks Lodge. He was on the Corry Memorial Hospital Board of Incorporators, and was an instructor of the Hunter's Safety Course for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Together with his wife, Marge, they built a home in the woods overlooking a pond and hills around Welsh Hill Road. There, they enjoyed years of watching wildlife, gardening, hunting, fishing with grandkids and hosting many memorable family gatherings of the Amy clan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on September 1, 2004, by his wife, Marjorie K Slattery Amy, whom he married on June 6, 1947, in Corry, Pa; and a sister, Dorothy Morrison. Buck is survived by four daughters...three sons...and a brother, Raymond Amy of Corry, Pa. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren...20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N Center St, Corry, Pa...until the time of the memorial service there... The Rev Thomas Brown will officiate.
