He is survived by his wife, Carol of 53 years, of Fly Creek; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Melissa (Miller) Bouton of Fly Creek and Patrick B. and Katherine L. (Whitney) Bouton of West Burlington; his three grandsons, Ryan P. Bouton, Evan M. Bouton, and Mitchell J. Bouton; his granddaughter, Meghan B. Bouton; as well as many countless cousins, nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law, Hank Zigon; and many cherished friends.

He was predeceased by his two adored sisters, Darlene Zigon in 1988 and Katherine Gilchriest in 1990.

Ron was born and raised in the area, a proud graduate of Cooperstown Central School. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps and was a respected part of the Marine Corps Band at Parris Island, S.C., at the end of World War Two. He was also a member of the National Guard, 108th Regt. Ron also served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army Hdq. and Hdq. Co., a member of the 12th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Division.

Ron worked as a greenhouse grower and designer at Bouton's Greenhouses for several years, then as a rural letter carrier and Postmaster of the Fly Creek Post Office for 31 years. In that time Ron was a past president of the Otsego County Rural Carriers Association, a past president of the Utica Sectional Center Postmasters Association and a devoted member of NSPUS and the League of Postmasters.

He was also a member of the Native Sons of Cooperstown, as well as a proud member of the Clan Sutherland Society in Scotland.

Ron loved hunting deer and turkeys in his spare time. He was passionate about the outdoors and was enthusiastic about working in the garden and on the lawns. He loved to travel, having visited many European countries as well as Canada and Mexico, and much of the United States. Above all things, he had an unconditional love for his family.

Ron was a hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his optimistic outlook on life, sensible advice, a great sense of humor, persistent encouragement and countless other wonder attributes.
