HINESBURG - Rodney McKinnon of Hinesburg passed away on Oct. 30, 2012, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, following a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Rod grew up and attended schools in Bristol.

For those that knew Rod, he was a warm and compassionate man who helped many. Rod proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean Conflict, aboard the aircraft carrier CVE 122 Palau, and shared his stories with many. Many people will remember Rod from the automotive business. He began his career at McNash Motors and after many years moved on to Nordic Toyota. He was not only a popular salesman and manager, but he mentored many still in the business. Rod never lost his love for music and the big bands

, nor his sense of humor, always enjoying a heartfelt laugh. Rod is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; daughters, Gayle and husband, Rod Alexander, of Burlington, and Glynda and partner, David Scheuer, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Alexa, Alan and David Schmidt, all of Vermont; and nieces, Kelly McKinnon, and Macky McKinnon Gains and her two children.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Irene McKinnon; and brother, Tom McKinnon.

There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Snap's Restaurant in Bristol.
