Don was born January 29, 1925, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to George and Mary (Flannery) Burkarth. He was reared and educated in Arkansas City, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1943, and later Southwestern College of Winfield with a degree in business. Don married Wanda Bowman on November 8, 1952, in Arkansas. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, where Don worked as an engineer for the Sante Fe Railroad for many years. Don also owned and operated tax/accounting firm Bukarth, Inc. Don was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and Crusader's Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Crescent Masonic Lodge #133 AF&AM and the Wichita Shrine. Don was also a member of the Walnut Valley Wood Carvers.
Survivors include his daughter Sharon and her husband Steve Gilliland of Westport, Connecticut; one grandson Nicholas Gilliland of Paris, France; siblings Jack Burkarth of Dallas, Betty McGehan of Arkansas City, and Mary Katherine Hays of Overland Park;
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Wanda.
