BARRE TOWN - William F. Barrett, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.

Born in Holyoke, Mass., on June 25, 1926, he was the son of William D. and Catherine (Bailey) Barrett.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. After his service, he earned an associate degree in accounting from Holyoke Community College. He was a production scheduler for the Holyoke Wiring Cable Co., retiring in 1985 due to ill health.

On Jan. 28, 1948, he married Helene Baril in Holyoke. In 1994 they moved to Waterbury, and in 2002 they moved to Barre Town.

Among his interests were fishing and skiing, and he was an avid reader.

He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre.

Survivors include his wife, Helene Barrett; one daughter, Helen Ann Dix, of Essex, Mass.; two sons, James Barrett, of West Springfield, Mass., and Steve Barrett, of Kalispell, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Johnson, of Beltsville, Md., and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Charles Barrett.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in the Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley, Mass., at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Monica Parish, 79 Summer St., Barre, VT 05641.

Arrangements are in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St. in Barre.

BARRE TOWN - A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre for William F. Barrett, 86, of Wildersburg Common. He died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.

The Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, pastor of the church, was the celebrant. Crucifer Lawrence Reilly read Scriptures from the Old and New Testaments and led the Prayer of the Faithful.

Organists Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists Sarah Procopio and Ronald Routhier in the hymns.

Words of remembrance were read by the Rev. Bilodeau.

A prayer service was held Monday at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home and was led by the Rev. Bilodeau.

Pallbearers were Real Maurice, Andre Rouleau, Edward Ferrari and Henry Bilodeau.

After the Mass family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant for a time of fellowship and luncheon.

Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley, Mass., where the Rev. Mr. John Bledsoe offered committal prayers. The American flag was presented to Helene Barrett, wife of the deceased, by Paul J. Carbonneau.
