Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Ann Champion will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
She was born Oct. 5, 1910, in Marissa, the daughter of James and Nellie (Manuel) Harland. She married Carl William "Bill" Ericson on March 23, 1940, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1985. Survivors include a son, Dan Ericson of Galva; a daughter, Ava (Paul) Brown of Machesney Park; a sister, Althea Schultz of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jeff (Tracey) Brown of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Jodi (Mike) Mohr of Machesney Park, Jennifer Brown of Evanston, and Jason (Alisha) Brown of Peoria; and seven great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and five sisters.
Dorothy graduated from Victoria High School and then from Western Illinois Teachers College. In the 1930s and '40s she taught at three different one-room schools in Knox County and then from 1956-73 she was an elementary teacher at F.U. White School in Galva. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
