Death Notice

Las Cruces Sun-News
July 13, 1939

Mrs. Juana Parra Romero, 42, was accidentally drowned when she fell into a 65 foot well at her home on Sierra Street late yesterday this afternoon.

Mrs. Romero was alone when the accident occurred. Her daughter Lydia, returning home for a visit with her father, two or three blocks away, missed her mother. She searched through the house and could not find her. The open well in the yard raised her suspicions.

She could not tell if the body was in the deep hole or not and acting upon a lesson she learned in school, she ran for a mirror and discovered her mother was in the four or five feet of water in the well. The alarm was given to Libario Olinar. He tied the rope around the bocy and was let down in the well. He tied a rope around the bocy and hauled to the top.

Mrs. Romero was known to suffer from epilepsy. When Dr. D.A. Miller was called, he ascertained he had died from drowning and since the history corroborated many neighbors was given of epilepsy, declared must she also died.

Mrs. Romero is survived by her husband, Epifanio Romero and sixteen year old daughter Lydia Olinar.

Funeral services will be given at 3:00 o'clock this afternoon and burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. The Graham's mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
