Mrs. Evelyn Booth Gardner Clapp, one of three Seattle residents reported killed aboard an airliner that crashed near Santa Barbara, Calif., was the wife of Norton Clapp, capitalist, and a daughter of Laurence S. Booth, retired president of the Washington Title Insurance Co. ***

Also killed was Mrs. Clapp's daughter by a previous marriage, Gale Gardner, 13, who has been attending school in San Francisco and had joined her mother for the plane trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara. Gale lived with the Clapps at Medina during summer vacations. ***

(Norton) Clapp was in Portland, Ore., when he received word of the missing plane and immediately went to Santa Barbara. Mrs. Clapp, an orchid grower, left Seattle by plane yesterday for Santa Barbara to accept the sweepstakes prizes in an orchid show being held in the California city.

Tragedy has struck before in the Clapp family. (Norton) Clapp's half brother, James N. Clapp, was injured fatally in 1944 when a tractor overturned on him at his ranch near Pasadena, Calif. Norton Clapp's former wife, Mrs. Mary Davis Clapp Joyce, and their son, Ralph Davis Clapp, were killed in an automobile accident near Ventura, Calif, in 1945. She and Clapp had been divorced in 1940.
