MISSOULA – Vern Leroy Williams went to heaven Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. Vern and his sister Verleen were born as twins on Sept. 13, 1920, in Morrill, Neb., to Charles and Lola Williams. They moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1937.

Vern was a U.S. Army Veteran. He married Sarah Baker on Oct. 12, 1949, and the couple lived in Corvallis before settling in Stevensville. He worked at a sawmill in Missoula for a short time and then went to work for Costello Ranch here in Stevensville as a farm laborer until he retired. Vern was a member of Light of the Valley Assembly Church for 50-plus years working in various capacities.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lola Williams; and sister, Verleen. He is survived by a brother, Dwayne (Murriel); two nephews, Jeffery Williams and Danny Williams; two sons, Leslie and Gerald; and two daughters, Gloria (Gary) Nash and Holly (Henry) Ibe. Also surviving are five grandchildren.
