1st Lt. Phillip L. French, 35th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron; reported missing on an administrative flight from Chanyi to Chihkiang, China. He is remembered on the Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal.

LT. PHILLIP FRENCH MISSING IN FRENCH

First Lt. Phillip French, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. French, 709 Walnut, has been missing over China since July 30, according from a telegram from the War department received Tuesday by his parents.

Lt. French is a pilot of a P-38 with a photographic reconnaissance unit stationed in the CHI (?) theater. He had been overseas since October 1943. He received his basic training at Marana Army Air Field, Tucson, Ariz., and was commissioned a second lieutenant at Williams Field, Chandler, Ariz.

Mr. and Mrs. French have two other sons in the service, T-Sgt. David French and Lt. (can't read letters) Robert French, who is aboard an aircraft carrier, both serving in the Pacific.
