Hazel Huss Sherrill, 91, of Connelly Springs, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born Oct. 12, 1919 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Gertie Rhoney and Daniel T. Huss.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Sherrill.

Mrs. Sherrill was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She taught school in the Hickory City School System at Highland Elementary School for 25 years.

A devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed by all.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Nantz of Connelly Springs; son, Tommy Sherrill and his wife, Katrina of Connelly Springs; two sisters, Rea Houston of Conover; Dot Rash and her husband, J.B. of Statesville; grandchildren, Cassie Nantz of Connelly Springs; Emmie Heslin and her husband, Tim of Lake Grove, N.Y.; Kellie Vinay and her husband, Michael of Arden; Melanie Miller and her husband, Lane of Trade, Tenn.; Jake Sherrill and his wife, Megan of Connelly Springs; Corey Sherrill of Morganton; Lindsay Sherrill of Hickory, NC; and great-grandchildren: Hailey Brown of Connelly Springs; Jordan, Harley and Parker Miller, all of Trade, Tenn.; Mackenzie and Mason Sherrill both of Connelly Springs; Landon and Ella Vinay both of Arden; Cole Heslin of N.Y.; and Jax and Max Williams both of Connelly Springs.

Burial in Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
