Obituary for J R Lowry by Whinery Funeral Home

J R Lowry was born August 28, 1918 in Rockwall, Texas to Clettie and Ernest Wayne Lowry. He passed away May 23, 2014 at Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years 8 months and 25 days. A grave side service will be held at Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon, Oklahoma on Tuesday, May 27th at 2 PM.

J R moved with his family to the Herring, OK community as a child. Then the family moved into the Hammon area. He married Minnie Packard and they made their home in Hammon where J R was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad. He held several positions including Machine Operator, Trackman, Foreman and Road Master and retired after 43 years of service. Minnie passed away in 1979 and he later married Dorrace Mize and they made their home in Clinton. J R was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II.

In addition to his wife, Minnie, he was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a brother, Wayne, and a sister, Jewel Troxel.

He is survived by his wife, Dorrace; a daughter, Pat Klaassen and husband, Clarence, of Colorado; a son, Robert Lowry and wife, Cindy, of Texas, 3 stepchildren, Cheryl Essary of Oklahoma, Dana Mize of Oklahoma and Roger Mize and wife, Helen, of Texas; 5 grandchildren, Lynn and husband, Jeff, of Washington, Kenneth of Colorado, Patsy of Oklahoma, Leah of Oklahoma and Nicole of Oklahoma; several great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Florence Dameron of Oklahoma and Doris Wood of Colorado and a host of other relatives and friends.

Flowers may be sent to Rose Chapel , 602 McKinney Ave, Cheyenne, Oklahoma or Memorials may be sent to Shepard Home Health and Hospice, 525 S. 30th St., Clinton, Oklahoma 73601.

CLINTON, Okla. — J.R. Lowry, 95, died Friday, May 23, 2014.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon. Arrangements are by Whinery Funeral Service Rose Chapel of Cheyenne.

Mr. Lowry was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Rockwall, Texas, to Clettie and Ernest Wayne Lowry. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served his country during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorrace; a daughter, Pat Klaassen of Colorado; a son, Robert Lowry of Texas; three stepchildren, Cheryl Essary and Dana Mize, both of Oklahoma, and Roger Mize of Texas; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florence Dameron of Oklahoma and Doris Wood of Colorado.

The family suggests memorials be to Shepard Home Health and Hospice, 525 S. 30th St., Clinton, OK 73601.
