SIDNEY — Peter Dix entered with joy to eternal life and was surely taken home on the wings of angels on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, after a short stay at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

He lived much of his adult life in Schenectady and relished his work with the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. In the 1970s he moved to Page, Ariz., working as a locomotive engineer for the Salt River Project, the nation's third-largest public power and water utility ,until his retirement in 1985. He was a model railroad hobbyist, designing his own villages and buildings and an amateur artist. Peter was proficient in both oil painting and water colors. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and old school jazz.

In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his first wife, Betty; and his son, Peter.

He is survived to cherish his memory by his wife of 27 years, Muriel M. (Wilson) Holstead-Dix, whom he had known since they were both 6 years old; his daughter, Karen Steele (Barry) of Page, Ariz.; his "come along children" as he liked to say: Dr. Roland Holstead (Sharyn) of Springfield, Mass., Murielann Holstead Moore (Roger) of Otego, and Deborah Holstead Sager (Ronald) of Sidney; his grandchildren, Payton and Cole Steele; and "come along" grandchildren, Lisa Monte, Cathleen Siegler, Janet Sorenson, Anne Santaniello, Joseph Holstead, Robert Baldo, Jessica Holstead, and Gregory Flanagan; and his great-grandchild; and 14 "come along" great-grandchildren.
