William Wampler, well known retired merchant of the Clever community, passed away at his home near Clever on Oct. 12, 1946, following a lingering illness. Mr. Wampler was born in Norton, Va., in the year 1875 and moved to Missouri when he was 21 years of age, settling on a farm near Boaz. He later was in the mercantile and canning business in Clever. He was united in marriage with Miss Laura Bell Smith on Oct. 30, 1894, and to this union were born seven children, three of whom preceded their father in death. Mr. Wampler was converted to Christ at a camp meeting in Lee county, Virginia, at the age of 17 but transferred his membership to the Methodist church after coming to the Methodist church after coming to Missouri. He was a faithful member throughout his lifetime. Surviving are his wife, Laura Belle; two sons, Harold Wampler of Clever and Guy Wampler of Reed Springs; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Ghan of Strafford, and Mrs. Helen Chastain of Springfield; five brothers and three sisters; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Clever Methodist church by the pastor, Rev. Haney. Burial was made in the Wise Hill cemetery under the direction of the Maples Funeral Home of Clever
