Francis "Frank" Tarrant, 85, died on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A Mass celebrating Mr. Tarrant's life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's R.C. Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, N.J. Mr. Tarrant was born in Jersey City, and was a resident of the Parker at Stonegate Assisted Living in Highland Park. He had previously lived for many years in East Brunswick, Avon-by-the-Sea, and Vero Beach, Fla. Mr. Tarrant attended St. Peter's College, and was called to active duty during World War II. Following three years of service in the Army, he went on to earn his degree from the Fordham University School of Law. Mr. Tarrant started his career as a deputy attorney general for the State of New Jersey, and in this capacity authored several pieces of legislation. He subsequently moved into private practice and at the time of his retirement, was a senior partner in the firm of Chasan, Leyner, Holland, and Tarrant in Jersey City. Mr. Tarrant served as the prosecutor for the Township of East Brunswick and was a member of the township Juvenile Conference Committee for many years. Following his retirement, he participated in the Superior Court of New Jersey Civil Arbitration Program, as well as the Inns of Court. Mr. Tarrant was a certified trial attorney and member of the New Jersey State and Hudson County Bar associations. Mr. Tarrant was a founding member of St. Bartholomew's R.C. Church and served in several volunteer positions. He was also a founding member and treasurer of the Village Recreation Swim Club for many years. Mr. Tarrant was a strong supporter of education, medical research, and smoking prevention. He donated his body to Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Mr. Tarrant was predeceased by Rosemary Flynn Tarrant, his wife of 52 years. He is survived by a son, Francis Tarrant Jr. and his wife, Susan, and their daughters, Laura, and her husband, Will Tragert, Beth, and Kelly of Fairfax, Va. He is also survived by six daughters, including, Rosemary McAndrew and her husband, James, and son, Michael, of East Brunswick; Karen Tarrant of Long Beach, Calif.; Tara Gunthner and her son, Ryan, of East Brunswick; Erin Beam and her husband, Brian, daughter, Shannon and son, Ryan, of Ringoes, N.J.; Mary Tarrant of East Brunswick,, and Colleen Williams and her husband, Michael, son, Aidan, and daughter, Brenna, of Cody, Wyo. He is also survived by a brother, Gerald Tarrant of Flemington; a sister, Maureen Tarrant of Vero Beach, Fla., and many nieces, and nephews. Mr. Tarrant was predeceased by his parents, Mary and William Tarrant, and his brother, William.
