Cpl. Francis J. Moses left Windsor with Company G of the National Guard on February 24, 1941, and was first stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida. Later he was transferred to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and on October 5, 1942, was sent overseas.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Moses of Windsor, VT and Cambridge, MA, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lussier of 52 Acme St., Windsor. Before he enlisted he was employed at Crawford's farm in Hartland, VT. He has one brother, Harry, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Lapine.

Cpl. Moses was one of the survivors of the sinking of the transport SS President Coolidge. While overseas he served in campaigns at New Hebrides, Guadalcanal, and New Georgia. It was in the Munda campaign on New Georgia that he was fatally wounded in action. He died on July 27, 1943 and was brought home to his final resting place February 1949. He was awarded the Purple Heart, which was received by his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Lussier (Find A Grave Memorial# 100013021).
