The only member of the Rothschild family to perish in the Holocaust. Born into a Catholic family from the Burgandy Region. In 1934 she married wine Vinter Baron Philippi de Rothschild. Following the Nazi occupation of France the Vichy government had Elisabeth and her husband Baron de Rothschild. After being relised he fled France for England where he joined the Free French Government. In 1941 Elisabeth was arrested by the Gestapo for trying to cross the border. She was sent to the Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. There she died of Typhus on March 23, 1945. However, the memoir of her husband states she was thrown alive into the oven.
