Louis was the 7th of 9 children born to Henry Schafer and his second wife, Minnie nee Most on their farm south of Tobias, Nebraska.

The following was probably an insert in his funeral folder:

Ludwig (Louis) Schafer was born to Henry and Wilhelmine Most Schafer on a farm near Tobias, Nebraska, on October 5, 1908. He passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital on January 19, 1997, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 14 days.
He was baptized on October 25, 1908 by Pastor A.K. Schroeder.
He attended country school for a few years and then attended Zion Lutheran School through the eighth grade. He was confirmed on April 9, 1922, by Pastor E. O. Patratz. His confirmation verse was Psalm 121:7.
He was united in marriage to Hattie Schwisow on October 10, 1929, at Zion Lutheran Church of Tobias by Pastor E.O. Potratz. Louis farmed most of his life. He greatly enjoyed working in his garden and had a great love for fruit trees, which was as demanding as farming. He also enjoyed having a few Angus cattle. Due to failing health, he entered Heritage Nursing Home of Geneva on April 13, 1994. He was a lover of music. He belonged to Zion Choir until he was eighty years old. He often played the piano and accordion, entertaining the residents in the home. His last day of playing the piano was at a family gathering on Christmas Day. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and held various offices in the congregation. He greatly enjoyed seeing his great-grandchildren. His eyes would perk up every time they came to visit him.
He is survived by two sons, Louis and wife, Linda of Tobias and Lavern of Daykin, two daughters, Marcella Stelzer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Carolyn Crouch and husband Jim of Daykin. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter since his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Hattie, on July 25, 1986, a son-in-law, Herb Stelzer on March 16, 1996, four brothers, Fred, Ernest, Leonard, and Siebert Schafer, four sisters, Margaret Bartels, Emma Bartels, Hannah Bartels, and Elizabeth Loseke and also two half-brothers and four half-sisters.
Pallbears were Larry, Lonnie, and Lee Schafer, Michael and Mark Jencks, and Kirk Yamaguchi. Honorary pallbears were Brian Jackson, Howard lau, Wayne Woodyard, Chris Waterhouse, Dan O'Malley, and Lance Ennis. Burial was on January 23 with Pastor Michael Reiners officiating. The choir sang "How Great Thou Art", his favorite hymn. Organist was Janile Campbell. Interment was in the church cemetery. Memorials to family choice.
