Earl George Heigle, our beloved husband, father and pawpaw, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 16, 2009, at the age of 83. He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, born May 22, 1925, to Edmund A. and Beulah Weidie Heigle. Earl is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Florence Moran Heigle; their four children, Janis Heigle Aslett, Kevin Heigle and wife Ann Briggs Heigle, Karen Heigle Richey and husband Dr. James Richey, and Dr. Thomas J. Heigle and wife Angela Bateman Heigle. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Jamie Richey Brodhead and husband Britt Brodhead, Stephen Aslett, Jill Heigle, Kyle Richey, Emily Aslett, Eric Heigle, Korey Richey, Sarah Heigle, Julie Heigle and Christopher Heigle; and his brother-in-law John T. Moran, Jr and wife Mary Ann Moran. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife's parents, John T. Moran, Sr. and Florence Massarini Moran. Earl proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Measure and the U.S.S. O'Brien. He attended Loyola University and Tulane University, but was a true fan of the LSU Tigers. Earl was a former employee of the Jefferson Parish Registrar of Voters. He was a parishioner of St. Philip Neri and attended annual retreats at Manresa House of Retreats for many years. He was a patriot and was very devoted to his Catholic faith. Earl was greatly honored to be invited to the apparition room during the apparition of the Blessed Mother in Medjugorge. He was a past Commander of the John P. April Chapter 33 of the Disabled American Veterans, and an officer in the Metairie Chapter 4429 of the AARP. Earl was totally devoted to his family and never put himself before them. His love for his wife, Florence, was total and eternal. He was the best pawpaw and shared a special love and bond with each of his grandchildren that was equally returned to him from them. Earl was a simple, great man and always a humble gentleman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchar-train Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2009.
