Ruth Marie VanDoren Vest Hart, a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal friend passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012. She was 84.
She was born in Perryville. She was married to Ray Vest, who preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1963 and Romuald “Rod” Hart, who preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 2001.
Ruth is survived by her son Randy (Mary) Vest; son Steve (Mary Ann) Vest; daughter Susan Vest (Mark) Greenstein and daughter Ginger Hart (Craig) Pierce; 11 grandchildren (their spouses) and numerous great grandchildren whose numbers continue to grow each year; sister Virginia Prost of Ste. Genevieve, with whom she spoke every day; brother Charles VanDoren of Perryville; sister Marge Mills of Perryville; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
In her own words Ruth stated she was “put on this earth for a job, and that was to raise my family and that is what I have done.” A job she did quite well.
Grandma Hart will always be remembered for her love of each grandchild and how she made each grandchild feel cherished and special. Ruth was loved and admired as a protective mother who supported and individually encouraged each child to love life and achieve their potential.
A loyal and active Catholic, she could often be found at morning mass or saying a rosary for her family; a family of faith within many denominations, for which she was always proud.
At Ruth’s request donations to St. Vincent de Paul-Food Pantry National Council of the United States, 58 Progress Parkway, Maryland Heights, MO. 63043-3706 can be made in her memory. Simply stated by Ruth is her belief that “no one in our country should ever go hungry.”
Her body is donated to St. Louis University for the pursuit of medical science. The family will be holding a memorial Mass and remembrance service for Ruth at a later date.
