Elda Anna Louise Effenbeck, the daughter of Carl J. and Charlotta (Vorderstrasse) Effenbeck was born on April 9, 1912, near Stoddard, NE. She passed away on Sept. 13, 2001, at Thayer County Health Services, Hebron, NE, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Elda was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stoddard, on May 5, 1912 by Pastor G.A. Spring. She was confirmed in the same church on Palm Sunday, April 10, 1927, by Pastor Theodore Lassen. Her confirmation verse was John 15:15, "I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit."
Elda attended elementary public school in the Chester, NE, area. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stoddard, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Luther League. After moving to Hebron in 1951, she joined Grace Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member until the time of her death. She was active in the Naomi Circle, taught Vacation Bible School and was a member of a Ladies Bible Study Group for several years.
She loved her family and was devoted to her parents. She was a great lover of nature and especially enjoyed working with her flowers and plants.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Effenbeck and his wife, Ruth; one sister Maria Effenbeck, who died in childhood; one brother-in-law John Harlow; and two nephews, Harold Harlow and Leland Effenbeck.
She is survived by two sisters, Lucille Heider and husband Elmer, Deshler, and Ida Harlow, Broomfield, CO; one nephew, Alfred Effenbeck and wife Beth, Deshler; three nieces, Donna Jamison, Commerce City, CO, Rebecca O'Leary and husband, Terry, Omaha, Dr. Carmen Heider, Oshkosh, WI, and one niece by marriage, Edith Effenbeck, Hebron; great neices, great nephews, great-great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, with Rev. Lawrence Fruhling officiating. Organist was Brenda Striggow and vocalist Bob O'Neal.
