MARION GI IS KILLED IN WRECK - Specialist Fourth Class Joseph Bernard Mattingly, 20, was killed Thursday, July 27, in Germany, when a military vehicle in which he was a passenger, left the road and struck a tree. Sp/4 Mattingly is a native of Marion County, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Mattingly of St. Mary. He was graduated from St. Charles High School in 1965 and entered the U. S. Army in June of 1966. He completed basic training at Fort Knox and from there was transferred to Presidio, San Francisco, Calif., where he was graduated as a military policeman. He left for France December 11, 1966, and went to Germany in May of this year. Besides his parents, he is survived by five brothers, Lawrence, Louisville; Harold, Danville; Frank, Muncie, Ind.; Billie, Lexington; and Hamilton Mattingly, Jr., at home; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Miles of Fern Creek, Catherine and Margaret Mattingly, at home, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mark Spalding. The body will be brought to Bosley Funeral Home.

LAST RITES HELD FOR J. BERNARD MATTINGLY - Funeral services for Specialist Fourth Class Joseph Bernard Mattingly, who died July 27, were held Friday, August 4, at St. Charles Church by the Rev. George Waldie, Rev. John Lesousky, subdeacon, and Rev. Nick Rice, deacon. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Williams, Bobby O'Daniel, Richard Miles, Johnny Reed, Benedict Boone and Frankie Thomas.
