Virgil J. Masters, 66, died Friday.
A native of St. Augustine, he was president of Masters and Co., mechanical contractors of East Palatka. He retired in 1987. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 234 and served on the Jacksonville Plumbers and Pipe fitters apprenticeship training program. He was affiliated with Jacksonville Mechcanical Contractors of North Florida and served on the Clay County Building Code Board and the Advisory Committee Tri County School of Technology (Putnam, St. Johns, Clay) and is a member of the Associations for Retarded Citizens of Putnam County. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Masters of Orange Park; son, David Masters of Palatka; three brothers, Vernon Masters of Riverside, Calif., L. L. (Pete) Masters of Jacksonville, Royce Masters of East Palatka; half sister, Laura Masters; half brothers Gerald Masters, Leroy Masters, Matt Masters and Carl Masters, all of Daytona Beach; step mother, Jane Masters of Daytona Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jacksonville Memory Gardens with the Rev. Vaughn H. Tollett,. U.S. Air Force retired, officiating.
