Lechtenberg, Kenneth

Ken passed away peacefully at his Lake Miltona home surrounded by his family early in the morning of June 5th, 2008.

He was born on February 21, 1944 to Gust and Lucille (Bruess) Lechtenberg. He grew up on the family farm near Waucoma, IA and was a sports standout at Turkey Valley High School where he led his football team to an undefeated season in 1962, his senior year.

He married Carol Boeding on November 9, 1963 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA, where both Ken and Carol's parents were married. They welcomed Lori Ann in 1964 and Timothy John in 1969.

Ken worked for Schwan's Home Service for 36 years, retiring in May 2005. During his career he moved the family to Marshalltown, IA; Oakes, ND; Forest, VA; Lake City, FL; Bismarck, ND; and finished the last 16 years in Fargo, ND. After retirement, Ken and Carol moved to Lake Miltona where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. They also spent winters in Jacksonville, FL where he enjoyed warm winter temperatures, walks on the beach, and spoiling his granddaughter Ellie.

Ken could build or fix anything. He had his own brand of humor, loved to laugh, and enjoyed telling and listening to good jokes.

He is survived by Carol, his wife of 44 years, daughter Lori (Ralph) Bedingfield, Jacksonville, FL; son Tim (Carol Jo), St. Paul, MN; granddaughter Ellie Bedingfield; father Gust, Waucoma, IA; brothers Marv (Steph), Knoxville, TN; and John (Cathy), Bettendorf, IA; sisters Marge (Pete) Meyer, Decorah, IA; Jean (Phil) Prevo, Bloomfield, IA; Becky (Marv) Smith, Ft. Atkinson, IA; and Sharon (Larry) Fuglsang, Houston, TX and many nieces, nephews, and friends including his Schwan's family.

He is preceded in death by his mother Lucille, nephew Grant Lechtenberg, and great-nephew Nicholas Rainey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm Monday at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA. Visitation will be held at the St. Lucas Historical Society Chapel at 10:30 am to 1 pm Monday.

Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, IA.
