[Bio by Sean Potochney]
Antoni Putorak was actually born 22 Jun 1866 of Carpatho-Rusyn ethnicity in Wierchomła, Mała, Galicia according to church records. He actually died 3 Jan 1926 in Centralia, PA according to his PA Death Certificate. Antoni was the son of Theodor Putorak and Tatianna Vawchak (also spelled Wałczak, the "ł" with a slash is pronounced as an English "w").

The tombstone photograph you see to the right is not Antoni's original grave marker. His original grave marker had no inscription. My relatives had a new tombstone made from him from dates that were most likely approximated from my great grandmother's memory.

I spell the surname "Putorak" because its Ukrainian spelling (Путорак) indicates that it's pronounced "Pooh - tore - rock" (which I only remember my grandmother saying one time).

As best as I can figure, Antoni Putorak immigrated to the U.S. between 1900-1910, leaving behind his wife Anna and son Wasil. He worked at Bethlehem Steel's Lackawanna, NY Plant in the early 1900's where he lost an eye in an industrial accident. Starting around 1924, he lived with his daughter Maria and son in-law, Nikolay Krynitsky, in Centralia, PA until his death in 1926.

My Ukrainian cousin, Solomia Krynytska, and her father Andrij deserve all the credit for obtaining church records from Krynica that linked Antoni Putorak to Wierchomła, Mała. (Luckily, LDS Family History Library has lots of church records for Wierchomła, Mała.)
