Mae Lavatori O'Keeffe of Ridgefield, a Ridgefield native and a longtime retailer in South Salem, N.Y., died on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Laurel Ridge Nursing and Skilled Care Center on Danbury Road. She was 82 years old and the wife of Michael F. O'Keeffe.
Mrs. O'Keeffe and her brother, Silvio Lavatori of South Salem, operated the Salem Market and Salem Liquor Shop for about 20 years, until Mr. Lavatori's death in 1982. She continued to operate the liquor store until her illness.
Mrs. O'Keeffe was born in Ridgefield May 1, 1926, daughter of the late Silvestro and Azelia Pesaresi Lavatori. Her father, who came to Ridgefield from Ripe in Ancona, Italy, Veterans Park and Community Center. She attended Ridgefield schools and graduated from Ridgefield High School.
A lifelong Ridgefield resident, Mrs. O'Keeffe was a member of the Italian-American Ladies Mutual Aid Society and of St. Mary's Church.
Besides her husband of 35 years, she is survived by a niece, nephew, great-niece, great-nephew and several cousins and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday in St. Mary's Church. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield.
