Harold L. Atkins, 84 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life and entered into eternal peace on Thursday, November 1st, 2012 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Harold was born on April 16th, 1928 in Ludlow, Pennsylvania, son of the late Preston and Alma Troutner Atkins. Harold was a United States Navy veteran and later worked in the supply branch of the Air Force and the Air Force Logistics Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, also doing consulting work through Logtec, Inc. before retiring.
Harold served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in many ministry capacities over the years, including song leader, youth director, and in seniors outreach ministries among other things. He loved to sing and continued to do so until his death.
Harold was survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Willena Weddle Atkins, whom he married on November 27th, 1952; one son, David (and Judy) Atkins; three brothers, Howard (and Jackie) Atkins, Myron (and Emma) Atkins, and William (and Viola) Atkins; one sister, Nancy Olson; one sister-in-law, Olive Dawes; numerous nephews and nieces; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Alma Atkins; and seven other brothers and sisters.
Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4th, 2012 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 5th, 2012 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Burnett of Trinity Fellowship officiating.
Burial followed in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset, Kentucky. Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post No#38 Honor Guard.
