The Republican Standard, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, March 3, 1899.

Mrs. Catherine Helfrich departed this life February 23rd, aged 81 years, 6 months and 10 days. The deceased, a daughter of Jacob and Eva Stemple was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, October 13, 1817. In infancy she was consecrated to God Holy baptism, administered by Rev. John Rinehart, the first regular pastor of the Lutheran Church in Carroll County. Her parents moved to a farm near Centerville, now Carrollton, when she was but seven months old. Having been duly instructed in the doctrines of the Christian religion she was confirmed in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, November 5, 1836 by Rev. David Rothacker, by whom also she was joined in holy wedlock to Jacob Helfrich, April 15, 1841 God blessed these parents with nine children, seven of whom are living. In addition to her seven living children, twenty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren comprise her descendants. A sister, Mrs. Barbara Dumbleton, and Martin Stemple, well known residents of Carrollton, Levi Stemple living at Wellington, Ohio, survive her.
Sunday February 26, her remains were laid to rest in Grandview cemetery, Pastor Arnholt officiating and assisted by Rev. Cronnenwett of Butler, Pennsylvania. For a period of four score years Mrs. Helfrich had been a resident of Carroll County, and for more than 63 years she had been a faithful communicant member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and had lived 57 years, 10 months and 8 days with her husband. She was a modest, kind, and gentle Christian woman, beloved by all who knew her. She filled the position of the ideal wife and mother as portrayed by Soloman in Proverbs; therefore, "her children also, and he praiseth her." During her brief, but severe illness she was conscious to the last. It was a great comfort to her that all her children at her beside, and by gentle acts of endearment she expressed affectionate recognition of their presence. The tender solicitude of her beloved husband for her spiritual welfare and his earnest prayers in her behalf she deeply appreciated
She also enjoyed the visits of her pastor. Her faith in Christ was strong. She trusted alone in His redemption, and fell on sleep with the confident assurance of salvation through His atoning sacrifice. She rests in peace.
