Andrew was born in Cookstown, Parish of Derryloran, in County Tyrone, Ulster Province, Ireland, about 1740 to 1745. He married Rebecca Paterson in America, probably in Hunterdon County. Family tradition tells us that Andrew served in the Revolutionary War, but his name has not been found on any rosters. Andrew was an Elder of the Church.

"After his return from the Revolutionary war he was at Pattenburg, in Bethlehem township, now Union township, Hunterdon County, N. Y. [sic]*, and had a dispute with a drunken tory over politics, which resulted in a quarrel, and the drunken man bit Andrew in the face. Blood poisoning resulted and caused his death."

*{I believe this is a typo and should be NJ}
