Charles Joseph Marks was born December 7, 1932, in Novinger, Mo. He went to be with his Lord after a brief illness, with his family by his side on October 31, 2012. He was raised in Hannibal, Mo. He began his career with the Wabash Railroad in Missouri and Illinois with a two year interruption for service to his country in the United States Army, where he served in Korea. With the merger of the Wabash and the Norfolk & Western Railroads in 1971, he accepted a position in Roanoke as a dispatcher. After 35 years of service, including a brief time in Atlanta, Ga., he retired from the Norfolk Southern in 1987.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Ruth Galyen Marks.
He was a life member of the American Legion Post 55 of Hannibal, Mo. and Masonic Harmony Lodge No. 3. Jacksonville, Ill. as well as OES.
He was a long term, faithful member of Belmont Christian Church where he served in numerous leadership positions.
A remembrance service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Belmont Christian Church, 1101 Jamison Ave, Roanoke, with the Rev. Craig Rutherford officiating.
