Veronica Louise Jackson, 45, of Palatka, entered eternal rest on Sunday, January 9, 2000, at the Putnam Community Medical Center.
She was a lifelong Putnam Countian born January 23, 1954, in Palatka. She was educated in Putnam County schools. attending Central Academy and James A. Long Elementary Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Palatka Central High School. She received her Associate's degree at St. Johns River Community College, her Bachelor's degree in Education at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville and had the determination to attain her Masters. She was a dedicated public school teacher for twenty-two years with the Putnam and St. Johns County School Districts, currently employed at Putnam Academy in East Palatka. Her previous teaching experiences include Ketterlinus Jr. High School, St. Augustine; Hastings High School and Robert Jenkins Middle School. She was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at an early age and lived her testimony daily. She served God as a faithful servant at New Life Temple Fellowship in East Palatka under the pastorate of Elder Mark A. Jones. She served as the Church Secretary, Youth Director, Missionary, and assistant Sunday School teacher. She was also a leader in the Women's Choir, Home Mission, and the Prayer Band.
Preceding her in eternity were her grandparents, Deacon William and Mother Emma Anderson Sr.
To cherish her precious memories are her devoted husband of 16 years, Deacon Carl A. Jackson; parents, Lillian (Evangelist James) Ashford and Ben (Ethel) Lowe; loving daughters, Deidre Calloway, Kimberley Rosemond, and Patrice Jackson, all of Palatka; son, Carl (Kiwani) Jackson Jr. of Palatka; caring sisters, Irma B. (Carl) Ross of Orange Park, Barbara Jean (Brian) Singletary of Green Cove Springs, Yvonne L. Battles, Queen E. (Curtis) Lewis, Beverly Brown Melendez, Valerie (Stanley) Murray, Aldrena (Tony) Hunter, Erma Jean Brown, all of Palatka, Annette, Lynette, and Cynthia Ashford of Gainesville; brothers, Bruce Battles of Palatka, Bobby (Carol) Lowe Sr. of Orlando, Alfred C. Harris and Ronald Ashford, both of Gainesville; two grandchildren; aunts, Ruby (Matthew) McCoy of Jacksonville and Lizzie Mae (Jim H.) Hopkins of Palatka; uncles, William D. (Pauline) Anderson of Oakland, Calif.; Curtis Lowe of Palatka; father-in-law, Alex Jackson Sr. of Hastings; brothers-in-law, Alex (Dorothea) Jackson Sr. of St. Augustine, Wilbert (Diane) Jackson of Palatka, Isaac (Barbara) Jackson of New York, Clifford (Catherine) Jackson, U.S. Army, Mexico; sister-in-law, Lucretia Robinsion of Hasting; god-son, Joshua Cooks; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, Elder Mark A. Jones of New Life Temple Fellowship is the Eulogist. Elder Johnny Shaw, Pastor of Pentecostal Church in God in Christ, is the officiant. Interment will follow in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
