Following his personal wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no public memorial service. There will be a private family burial.

Owens was born August 27, 1920 to George T. and Dovie O'Briant Owens at Quail. He was graduated from Quail High School in 1938. He and Billye Dodson, also of Quail were married Sept. 4, 1941 in California.

When the United States entered World War II in Dec. of that same year, he was employed by Douglas Aircraft in California and continued working there until entering the service. In World War II, Gorman served with the 325th Glider Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He earned the Bronze Star Medal.

In the early 1950's when Wellington's Post office began home deliver inside city limits, Gorman was hired as the office's first letter carrier on a walking route. He delivered mail, in the beginning, to all eligible homes in the city of Wellington. He continued with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement and remained a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church. As long as he was able, he enjoyed all outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, gardening and keeping his yard. He was also an avid reader.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Guy Wesley Owens and his son, Mark Wesley Owens.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Billye, of the home; his daughter, Aleta Irwin and her husband, Ray, of Lewisville; two granddaughters, Kristi Irwin of Dallas and Bree Owens of Amarillo.

He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Walter (Buddy) Dodson of Dallas and four sisters-in-law, Juanita Owens and Bennye Brisbin of Wellington, Barbara Beights and husband, Cletus, of Amarillo and Beth Sherrod and husband, Wayne, of San Angelo. He also has many surviving nieces and nephews and their families. Amelia Goodrow and Sam Morgan, both of Wellington, are cousins.
