James "Jim" Jackson, 88, of Palatka, died Thursday morning, December 9, 1999, at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Newark, New Jersey, he was born May 15, 1911, to Willie Samuel Jackson and Mary Ellen (Briggs) Jackson. He received his early education in the New Jersey School System. He was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Marine Corps. Following his military stint, his career included employment with Global Security Co., Wackenhut and Wells Fargo, and he retired in supervision as a Captain. He had been a resident of Palatka since 1992, coming from Camden, N.J. Jim had visited several local churches with family and friends and most recently visited with the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. He had been active in Camden, N.J., and served in the King Solomon Lodge No. 2, Corinthian Chapter No. 1, A.F.&A.M., a member of the National Rifle Association; North American Hunting Club; Camden Fraternal Order of Police Lodge; also a member of Putnam's Senior Friends.
Jim enjoyed traveling all over the world with his beloved wife, Dorothy McClammy Jackson, who preceded him in death on Thursday, July 29, 1999. Jim's life was forever changed following Dot's demise. His eldest son, Leon also preceded him in death.
To cherish his memories are his daughter, Barbara Rosario and husband, José of Pennsauken, N.J.; son, Greg Jackson of Newark; sisters, Gertrude Williams and Ester Jackson; brothers, Donald Jackson, Sonny Jackson and Charles Edwards, all of New Jersey; six loving grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Thelma G. Walker of Palatka, Marjorie Jones of Exmore, Va.,; brother-in-law, Aaron (Juanita) McClammy of Ocala, James Gayles of East Orange, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, his personal physician, Dr. Sabine I. McReynolds, and many caring friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the "Chapel of Serenity" with Elder Johnny Shaw, pastor of Pentecostal Church of God In Christ, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
Visitation of family and friends will be today, 3-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 9-11 a.m.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Flagg-Serenity Memorial Chapel, Palatka. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 14 Dec 1999.)
