Millie Celia (Schramek) Beck died Monday, 17 September 2012 at Crestview Nursing Home in New Lisbon, WI.
Millie, the oldest daughter of Joseph and Lennie (Wolf) Schramek, was born on 19 July 1921 in Mitchell county, KS. She spent her childhood on the family farm south of Simpson, KS with her parents and five siblings. The family were strong supporters of the Bohemian community.
On 17 April 1940, she was united in marriage to Lawrence "Larry" Beck who died in 2010. Three daughters were born to this union. Larry and Millie started housekeeping on the Willis Beck family farm southwest of Glasco, KS, where she was a devoted wife and mother who took pride in her home duties. Outside of her home activities, she worked for several grocery stores. Her delicious fruit pies were well known in the community of Delphos, KS which were sold at the local store. Larry's job opportunities took the family to several different cities in KS and WI where Millie created a loving home for her family.
Fishing, card playing, her flower garden, and bowling were great sources of entertainment for her. In 1983, retirement brought Millie and Larry back to Glasco,, KS from Sun Prairie, WI. She remained in Kansas until March of 2012, then moved back to Wisconsin to live close to her daughters.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughters and their spouses: Sherrill Downey of Appleton, WI; Gloria (Glenn) Schulz of Mount Horeb, WI, and Terry (Jim) Mills of New Lisbon, WI; plus three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Schramek of Topeka, KS and Doris Schramek of Beloit, KS, and one brother-in-law, Max Melton of Stilwell, KS and many nieces, nephews and friends.
