James Reed Shupe, age 78, of Galax, VA passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Waddell Nursing Home in Galax. Mr. Shupe was born August 23, 1934 in Ennice, NC to Muncie Shupe and Zelma Grace Smith Shupe. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step son, Kenneth Burcham. He is survived by his wife Irene Shupe of the home, three step daughters & sons-in-law: Wanda & Donald Lowe; Carol & Glen Smith; and Debbie Hodges all of Galax; his mother Zelma Grace Smith Shupe of Galax; sister and brother-in-law: Joyce & Gil Hutch of Florida; half-sisters and husband: Mary Leda Treptow and Hattie Mae & Jim Bedsaul; half brother and wife: Larry Joseph & Tami Carter of Galax, VA. Eight Step Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren also survive. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Myron Dalton, Rev. David Long and Pastor Garry Adams officiating. The burial will be Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
