Kenosha, Wis, Jan 28-Leonard C. Bacon, one of the first white children brought to Southport, a member of the Eagle Regiment in the Civil War and one of the best-known characters in Kenosha died this morning at his home in this city after a long illness. Leonard C. was one of the oldest survivors of the early settlers of Kenosha county. He was born in New York. When his father came to Southport as an agent of the Western Immigration Company in 1835, he brought his wife and sons with him. Since that time L.C. Bacon had continuously resided in Kenosha. He connected with the early development of the city in many ways. At the time of the breaking out of the Civil War "Mother Bacon" had three sons and all of them volunteered for the service. L.C. remained at home for the first year of the war to care for his mother, but with the second call for volunteers enlisted. He served to the end of the war, taking part in many leading battles both East and West. He mustered out as Commissary Sergeant of his company. Since the war Mr. Bacon has been connected with several businesses in Kenosha, but during the last ten years he has been an invalid. He is survived by a widow and three children.

Leonard C. Bacon married Eunice Fairfield Aug 9 1859 in Waukegan, Lake, Illinois. They had four children Lee F. Bacon b.1862 Wis., Mable Bacon b. 1863 Ill., Edwin W. Bacon b. 1869 Ill. & Frank Bacon b.1875 Ill.

They were divorced by 1880, and Leonard moved to Nebraska, he later married Emma unknown and had a daughter Cora b. 1887 in Indiana. They returned sometime later to Kenosha, were Leonard died.
