Dixie Lou Freeman was born and raised in Valley Mills, TX, daughter of Elmer and Minnie Freeman and youngest of three girls. She lived in Henderson, TX, at the time of her death and was survived by son Jon Jablonowski, daughter Lisa McTee, daughter Jana Wylie; nine grandchildren; two sisters Anna Parsons and Sue Kerley. Dixie held her family close to her heart and was a wonderful "Maw" to her beloved grandchildren.

One of her first jobs in Henderson was a seamstress at Herman-Marcus where she met and remained friends with many ladies. She later began working at Sears & Roebuck where she worked her way up to being the credit manager. Her final career in law enforcement began as a dispatcher for the Rusk Co Sheriff's Department in the mid-1970's. Dixie later served as the 4th District Court bailiff under the Honorable Paul S. Colley. While later working at the Henderson Police Dept in the early 1980's, she enrolled at Kilgore Police Academy in 1983. After graduation in 1984, Dixie transferred from dispatch to a patrol car as a police officer. Over the years, she advanced in rank to become the first female sergeant for the Henderson Police Department and served until April, 1991. On May 1, 1991, Dixie was sworn in as the first female Municipal Court Judge for the City of Henderson. Judge Freeman held this position until her retirement on November 30, 1996.

An avid pianist with a beautiful voice, Dixie would volunteer at gatherings, for rural area churches, or anywhere there was a piano and people willing to listen. She had an exceptional talent to be able to listen to a song a few times and play it without ever reading the music. She also loved to tend to her vegetable and flower gardens (especially with the grandkids) and fishing.

We miss you, Mom.
