Mrs. Staggs died Tuesday September 21 2004 at Bells Nursing Home. She was born on November 9 1911 in Hardeman County Tennessee, the daughter of the late George and Annie Pittman Groves and was a resident of Mercer most of her life. She retired in 1979 from the Western Mental Health Care Center where she was a nurse's aide. Mrs. Staggs was a longtime member of the Mercer Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter Catherine Derryberry of Lonoke AR; a son and daughter-in-law Ronnie Gene and Nancy Collins Staggs of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Judy Barnes Staggs of Powell TN; a sister Velma Hinson of Humboldt; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Myran Clinton "Bill" Staggs and two brothers.
Pallbearers to serve will be grandsons Samuel High, Brian Mahoney, Greg Pettit, Billy Wayne Staggs, Nathan Staggs and Kevin Simpson.
Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund at Mercer Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memphis Tennessee.
The family will receive friends at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons this evening from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel 731-427-5555 is in charge of services.
