2nd Lt. Gordon Davis was killed in action in France during World War II. He was the navigator on the B-17 "Royal Flush", #42-6087, on a mission to bomb the airfield at Villacoublay, France, when the aircraft was struck by flak and went down. Lt. Davis was one of four airmen that died as a result of this action. Two men were on board the aircraft when it crashed but the rest of the crew bailed out. The German troops shot at the men as they parachuted down and two of them were killed. The rest were taken as prisoners of war. The Germans brought the four bodies, one of which was Lt. Davis, to French authorities in Clamart, France. They were buried in the Clamart Cemetery.
