Freedom's Seven African American burial plot in Portland, Oregon

"Freedom's Seven" is an African American burial plot in Portland, Oregon that was recently discovered by members of the Oregon Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission by walking the cemetery and then by researching in archives and examining primary historical documents. Henry Willis is one of seven African American residents of Portland who were interred in a burial plot purchased by African American and early freedom fighter Sarah Johnston Wisdom in the 1870s, shortly before she buried her first husband, Andrew Johnston.
