My father told me that One Halloween, he and some friends of his went and took one of his Great Uncle Robert's Wagon Hearses from the funeral home and took it and put it on top of the school house. The next morning the Principal came into the class room and yelled at my father, "Hubbard! I know you had something to do with this". Robert was called to come and retrieve his hearse. He told the Principal that he didn't have any idea who did it. My father figured he probably knew it was him but Robert never spoke of it. Perhaps he just figured it was kids having fun for Halloween. Kind of funny, a hearse on top on the school house. LOL
For Christmas: Christmas Eve my Sister was allowed to open one present and it was the game "Candyland" while we were playing my father called us to come over to the window, he had seen a plane in the air in the distance, he told us to look, and when the plane's red lights blinked he said it was Rudolph and Santa. We went screaming for our beds. Thats one fast way to get the kids to bed on Christmas Eve.
*A Poem written by Lois for her brother: Bill Hubbard.*
Offered in Memory of William Milton Hubbard
July 17, 1936 Ė May 3, 2008
Death is a journey we all must take,
But one we must make alone
A journey not into darkness,
But into the Light of our Eternal home.
When God looked down on Billy,
He saw his weakened frame,
So with gracious arms around him,
He whispered, ďCome, I will ease your pain.Ē
Billy was my youngest brother.
So I am not prepared to say farewell.
I always felt God would call for me
Before He chose a plot for him to dwell.
I stood beside him when he was lonely
And beside me, he would always walk.
And I was always willing to listen
Whenever he wanted to talk.
My heart aches with grief and pain
Longing to just speak with Billy again.
Yet with joy and laughter, sorrow and tears
Iíll remember him for the rest of my years.
Iíll hear him knocking on my door,
And wish for our carefree laughs once more.
Iíll miss those good times, though often rare
That showed love only a brother and sister could share.
In life, I loved him dearly.
In death, I love him still.
In my heart, he holds a special place
No one else could ever fill.
I know heís loosed the bonds of life
Soaring in Heaven where only God reigns.
And I know God will take care of Billy
As he waits for us to meet again.
Until then, Farewell My Beloved Brother
Your Sister, Lois H. Young
