Jarrett Ray Branscum, 63, of Tulsa, passed from this life at his home in Tulsa on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, after a brief battle of lung cancer.

J.R. was born in Alco, Arkansas on September 5, 1945, one of 10 children born to William Clifton "W.C." Branscum and Myrtis Irene Morrison Branscum.

J.R. went to Timbo School and Leslie School, graduating in 1964. Jimmy Driftwood (real name-James Corbitt Morris) was one of his school teachers at Timbo. He went to the Technical School in Hot Springs, Arkansas before being drafted into the army.

Jarrett served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Arkansas.

He worked for the Tulsa Public School system for 27 years as a mail/film driver and sixteen years as a carpenter. After retiring from the school board he went on to work as a self-employed carpenter/roofer and then went to truck driving school and drove a semi for several years until cancer changed the course of his life.

Survived by his wife of almost 40 years; two sons; daughter-in-law; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one brother; seven sisters; four brother-in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Also survived by his two doggie boys, Buddy and Puddles. JR loved taking those two doggie boys on a walk every day until he got sick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wilma Broad; step-brother, Vester Branscum; and three step-sisters, Seawilla Vickers, Voida Gresham, and Syble Christenot.

Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2009 at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Woodland Memorial Park, 1200 N Cleveland, Sand Springs, Oklahoma, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service. Tom Wilson and his wife Margie will be officiating at the services.
