Awarded the Silver Star ( order Number S.O. 84, 27th Division ), for his actions during the Battle of the Hindenburg Line ( vicinity of St. Souplet ) Sept. 27 - 29, 1918, France. Returned from France, March 6, 1919, aboard the Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.
