Cathy Bausom Archer, 56, of Kokomo, passed away at 6:00 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 in Fairmont Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 17, 1956 in Kokomo to the late Dayton Edward Bausom and Eula Margaret (Porter). On July 31, 1999 in Kokomo, she married Chester "Archie" Archer Jr., who survives. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1974. She earned her Associates Degree and recently received her Bachelor's degree from I.U.K. She was the first recipient of Bachelor of General Studies of the School of Sciences offered at IUK. She was an active member of Altrusa, I.U. Alumni Association, Samaritan Care Givers, Relay for Life, and Walk a Mile in my Shoes. She was also a member of the Kokomo Great Banquet 66 and served on the team as a table leader and speaker for Kokomo Great Banquet 77. Cathy walked each year and was an active participant in the Take Back the Night event at IU Kokomo. She had been a cheerleading coach at Northwestern High School and previously owned the Wrapped in Elegance Bridal Shop. She began her career with IUK in 2001 in continuing studies. Her most recent position was the Administrative Secretary for the school of Humanities and Social Sciences and was coordinator for the annual IUK Craft Fair. She was also Student Ambassador for IUK. She also held the position of POS specialist at Kohls Department Store. She loved to cook and catered parties for friends and relatives. She always wanted to open a catering service and those who tasted her cooking can attest it would have been a success. She was an avid sports fan, following I.U. Basketball, Colts, NASCAR, Notre Dame football, and the Olympics. Cathy's life was short on this earth but she lived it to the fullest. Her loving generosity and compassion touched the hearts of everyone she met. She always did for others, never for herself. There is an empty spot in our hearts. We would like to thank our family, friends, co-workers, and healthcare providers for all their care, support, and prayers during this time.
Survivors include her husband Chester "Archie" Archer Jr. of Kokomo; two brothers-in-law Jeff Archer and Jack Archer, both of Kokomo; one sister Kim Bourff of Kokomo; sister-in-law Charlene (Larrell) Norris; many nieces and nephews; special friend "Mama" Connie Boyle; her loving cat "Tazzy Boy", and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother David Bausom.
A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Morning Star Church, 2900 East Markland Avenue, Kokomo. Pastor Greg Reed will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to help with final expenses and healthcare costs. Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel is handling arrangements.
