Catherine had originally accompanied her sister (Margaret Pettapiece Christie) and brother (John Pettapiece) and their families as they moved to Howard County Missouri from Ontario shortly after the American civil war.
Eventually, Catherine, Margaret and their families all moved back to Canada, where they were some of the first homesteaders in this region of Manitoba.
