Shirley Mae Dodd, 92, of Waverly, Iowa, died on October 8, 2012 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, Iowa.

Shirley Mae Dodd was born on May 21, 1920, in LeRoy, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward William and Muriel (Speer) Rosenthal. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Tripoli. Shirley attended school in Tripoli, graduating from the Tripoli High School in 1937 and then continued her schooling at Gates Business College in Waterloo. She then worked at Holtz Printing Company in Cedar Falls and from 1940 until 1944 worked for Washington D.C. Corps of Engineers. On October 11, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Franklin (Frank) Dodd at the Methodist Church in East Dubuque, Illinois. The couple made their home in the Waverly area, where Shirley worked for the Rath Employees Credit Union in Waterloo from 1954 until 1980. Following her retirement the couple moved to Galena, Missouri, where they made their home. Frank died in 1998, and Shirley remained in Missouri until April of 1998, when she moved back to Waverly.

Shirley loved music and square dancing, and also enjoyed playing cards. She especially enjoyed the visits from her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Judy (Terry) Scrivner of Waverly, Iowa; one son, Russell (Cindy) Dodd of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren, Angie Hinderaker, Malissa Schuldt, Luke (Linsey) Schuldt, Lindsey (Scott) Behrends, and Tim Dodd, 13 great grandchildren; brother, Douglas (Lois) Rosenthal of Cotton, Minnesota. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, and a sister, Gloria Buhr.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Chapel at the Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly, with Pastor Alan Bidne officiating. The family will greet friends an hour before services on Monday at the chapel. Private burial of her cremains will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly.
