OBITUARY

Dudley Mitchum Bowman, former resident of Mercer county, died Wednesday, August 24, 1938 at Kansas City, Mo., where he had made his home for about forty years. Mr. Bowman was a son of Dudley and Virginia Smith Bowman and was born about 73 years ago at the family homestead, Bellevue, near Burgin, this county. His ancestors were among the first settlers of this community and were prominently identified with its development for several generations. Mr. Bowman attended Centre College and married Miss Mary Dunlap, of Danville, who survives, with one daughter, Mrs. Harold Batchelor, a grandson Dudley Bowman Batchelor, all of Kansas City, who with Col. Batchelor accompanied the remains here. Mr. Bowman is also survived by a sister, Mrs. H. C. Cassell, Fort Worth, Tex., and a brother, A. Smith Bowman, of Fairfax, Va., both of whom were former well known citizens of Harrodsburg.
Mr. Bowman was engaged in the real estate business in Kansas City, but was forced from continuing his active career some time ago by a breakdown in health. Pneumonia developed a few days before the end. The funeral was at the family lot in Spring Hill Cemetery, where members of his kindred for several generations, are buried. Rev. T.
